What is a Family Cooperative?

In a family cooperative, families help make the decisions that affect not just their own children, but all the children at Cinnamon Street. Family members play a role in developing the educational programs offered, designing promotional materials, deciding how money is spent, and maintaining the building, just to name a few opportunities. Every family has a voice through the Executive Board and various specific committees that cater to each person's individual talents. Sound complicated? It's really not. Just ask a teacher how you can help!

You may be asking, "But how can I help? The whole reason I need child care is because my life is already so busy!" But Cinnamon Street is made great through the collaborative efforts of families and teachers! In effect, a family cooperative puts you in charge of your child's early education and also makes you instrumental in affecting positive changes at Cinnamon Street, and ultimately in your local community as your child; a Cinnamon Street graduate, goes on to 'higher' education.

Family Involvement

The Cinnamon Street Executive Board in 2009 designed a policy that mandates a certain number of hours or monies be raised. This time and money is what keeps the center running smoothly and tuition costs reasonable. Each family is required to volunteer 24 hours a year in approved activities, OR fundraise a minimum of $240.00 net to Cinnamon Street a year. You can also do a combination of the two. Volunteer hours/monies raised will be tracked throughout the center’s fiscal year which runs from July 1st through June 30th. New families enrolled during the fiscal year shall be prorated from their enrollment date through the end of the fiscal year.

Opportunities for involvement abound. No experience is necessary. Volunteers do a lot of work throughout the year, and that helps lower our operating expenses while maintaining our high quality programs.

Examples of involvement include:
